Welcome to RhodenRacing

Somewhere along the way, you’ve probably used it. Whether you’ve deliberately tracked down the mysteriously coded website, stumbled upon the printout at your local TAB, or eavesdropped the conversation about the one he’s got four kilos clear on top in race five, there’s a fair chance you’ve been a beneficiary of Rhoden’s calculations. I’d like to dub it the brainchild of the 40+ year servant of the Maths and Physics classroom, Mr John Rhoden, but given the 25 years of unparallelled success the printout has achieved, it’s more of a brain-self-funded-retiree, than child.

As of 2013, the veil of mystery cloaking Rhoden’s calculations is going to be removed. Over the coming weeks, John Rhoden has agreed to explain the calculations, formulations, justifications and assumptions that form the bases of Rhoden’s calculations; along with the coveted key to interpreting the printout. Whether you’re a budding punter or an avid student of applied mathematics, there will be something in this series of articles for everyone.

If you have been following Rhoden’s calculations (consciously) in the past, rest assured, the printout will remain freely accessible on this website. But from now on, we’ll be aiming to do a bit more for you, to take the guesswork out of interpreting the data. Along with JR’s periodic articles, RhodenRacing will soon be providing every printout since January 1, 2011 and access to a database that houses information pertaining to every horse’s run* in every race since January 1, 2011 and much more.

In the meantime, have a look around the site, check out this week’s printout, and even follow the team’s suggested bets. Oh, and make sure you send us an email at rhodenracing@gmail.com if there’s anything you’d like to see on the site.

Happy punting!

  1. Hoping to see you back on track shortly, John.
As of May 23, 80 selections have been backed, for a loss of 8.6 units I believe. A modified approach, in which selections are backed only if they SP at less than $4.00, has found 20 winners from 39 bets, for a progress profit of 12.9 units over the same period. (Note this approach does back those odds-on chances you would have ignored, although they have contributed just 0.7 units to the profit.) Now your bookie will think you crazy if you give instruction to cancel the bet if the SP is $4.00 or over, but keep the bet for lower prices. Yet the approach has worked so far this year.

Thanks Rhoden Racing. Really enjoying the printout and the fact that there is room for your own interpretation.
Each meet I have been placing two bets …. A quaddy based on your predicted winner with and positive values in also, and a 6 leg all up formula 3. Have been very close to a big quaddy 2 out of 3 goes and got 1 out of the three all ups!
Having fun! Keep up the good work.

I genuflect in your general direction John ! Still digesting the logic, but largely makes sense…..love the Quaddie Quorner !! Will this only be for Melbourne meets ? (happy if it is)

Thanks for your feedback. Regarding the Quaddies; there will always be a Melbourne Quaddie. If the Sydney Quaddie looks gettable, or there is a Carnival meeting in Sydney, then a Quaddie will be crunched for that venue as well.

    Hi John,
I’m not sure whether my email sent, so I’ll try again. I was just letting you know how much I appreciate you sharing your ratings with me through your website. It has made my days at the races far more enjoyable. Thank you, Bob Bellhouse, Queenscliff

Hi John, it’s great to see this blog up and running. Am very intrigued about how these calculations actually work! Spoke to you late last year in regards to these calculations with Woody!

Hi Will, Glad you got in touch. Parts 4 & 5 of “PRINTOUT EXPLAINED” will be out in a few days. They contain the formulas I use. The formulas are based on thousands of empirical observations. Contact me if you need to after you read Parts 4 & 5.
